Environmental regulators discovered recently that the new car models from Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen have cheat devices installed on them to emit a few pollutants during the testing. A notice of violation was issue by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to the following models: 2014 VW Touareg. 2015 Porsche Cayenne. 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5.
This has been Volkswagen’s second time to violate the emmisions testing., while for Audi and Porsche, this is the first time they had been issued such notice of violation from the EPA.
EPA spokesman confirmed that a software installed on the cars assures that they will emit fewer nitrogen oxide than the legal limit during the emissions testing. But then, they will go back to their ‘normal’ mode once they hit the road and emit nine times the legal limit of nitrogen oxide. These emission control devices were not disclosed by the mentioned companies to the environmental regulators.
For now, environmental regulators are communicating with the companies to work out on a plan to fix the issues of the vehicles which were issued the notice of violation. “Today we are requiring VW Group to address these issues. This is a very serious public health matter,” Richard Corey, the executive officer of the California Air Resources Board, declared.
Meanwhile, all 2015 and 2016 car models that are sold in North America are now using new testing procedures which are conducted by the California Air Resources Board, Environment Canada and the EPA. While there are about 10,000 cars affected on the U.S., the number of cars affected in Canada unknown yet.
