Carmen Carrera speaks up on the petition for her to be Victoria’s Secret “Angel”

An online petition in Change.org wants Carmen Carrera to become the first ever transgender model for Victoria’s Secret. By now, the petition has reached almost 50,000 signatures from the supporters.

The 30-year-old reality star speaks up on an interview with the Time magazine. She spoke about how being a Victoria’s Secret Angel can be a great advantage for the whole LGBT community. “I want to do this for, of course, me and my career. I’m a show girl at heart. If I’m going to do fashion shows, this is the one to do. And I want to do it for my family. I want them to be proud of me. I want them to be like, that’s our kid, we raised that girl right there,” Carrera said.

During the interview, the transgender star also talked about her desire to become an actress and to play a woman role with biological issues. She admits, though, that it may not be easy for her, but she hopes that everyone is open to give her the opportunity.

When asked by Time about her views on non-transgender actors playing transgender roles, Carrera said, “It depends on the role. If the role is for a person who transitions late in their life or if the role is for a transvestite, I get it. But at the same time, I would like to see the trans community more active in acting…. The casting director should be open to seeing transgender talent, and the transgender people need to build up the courage to go an audition.”

Carrera became popular after joining “RuPaul’s Drag Race” show as the first openly transgender competitor. When the show was over, she decided to undergo a medical transition to become a woman. At that time, she was married with her husband, Adrian Torres, for eight years. Wetpaint reported that the couple has joined the “Couples Therapy Season 6” in order to keep their marriage.
